Secretary Brewer Presents Revised Voter Registration Form To Comply with Proposition 200

Seeks Public Comment

PHOENIX - Secretary of State Jan Brewer has been working to update Arizona's voter registration form to bring it into compliance with Arizona's Proposition 200 initiative passed by the voters on November 2, 2004.

“Proposition 200 now requires that all new voters provide proof of citizenship when registering to vote. Our revised form now accommodates this new requirement,” Secretary Brewer stated.

Though the required changes to Arizona's voter registration form are mandated, Secretary Brewer feels strongly that the public should be given every opportunity to review the revised form and to submit comments. Members of the public may comment on the proposed form until Friday, March 4, 2005 .

The revised form may be viewed on the Secretary of State's website www.azsos.gov or a copy can be obtained by contacting the Secretary of State's Office. Requests and comments may be sent as follows:

  • Via the website, www.azsos.gov
  • By telephoning the Election Services Division
    1-602-542-8683
    toll-free within Arizona at 1-877-THE VOTE (1-877-843-8683)
  • By sending a FAX to 1-602-542-6172

In addition to the requirements set out by Proposition 200, other requirements for the voter registration form can be found in Arizona Revised Statutes § 16-152. The new voter registration form must be adopted by the Secretary of State and pre-cleared by the United States Department of Justice before it may be used in Arizona.

“We look forward to receiving input on the proposed new form. We have worked hard to implement the new provisions of Proposition 200 and have strived to design a new form that will be as easy as possible for the citizens of Arizona to use." concluded Secretary Brewer.

Until the new form is adopted and pre-cleared, voters are encouraged to follow the citizenship requirements of Proposition 200 while utilizing the current voter registration form.
