Duties
The Mine Inspector...
Enforces the State Mining Code for the health and safety of the workers and the public in Arizona's active, inactive, and abandoned mining operations.
Provides training to improve individual health and safety practices.
Provides work site evaluations that result in improved workplace health and safety conditions.
Regulates and enforces the provisions of the State Mining Code relating to abandoned/inactive mine safety.
Reviews and monitors all mine reclamation activities.
Since the Mining Law of 1872, over a million mining claims have been filed in Arizona. The Arizona State Mine Inspector's Office estimates that roughly 10 percent may have had actual mining conducted on them leading us to set a number of approximately 100,000 abandoned mine openings within the state. |
