Secretary of State Jan Brewer Signs Presidential Preference Election Canvass
McCain receives 25.5% of all Arizona votes, 23% go to Clinton, Obama gets 19%
PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer signed the Official Canvass of the Presidential Preference Election (PPE) today at 1:30 p.m. Results of the canvass show the voter turnout for the PPE which was held on February 5, 2008 was just under 52 percent of registered Republican and Democrat voters. In comparison, the voter turnout in the last three PPE’s held in 1996, 2000, and 2004 had between 30 and 36 percent turnout with different participating parties.
“I want to commend the election workforce for their yeoman like effort to keep counting till every last vote is done,” said Sec. of State Brewer, “People commonly think election day is the end of the whole process, but the fact is we spend days continuing to process over 100,000 early ballots and provisional ballots turned in on election day.”
Secretary Brewer praised the county recorders and election departments for their cooperation to help make the election a success. “The bottom line is that every vote counts. Working together with the counties, we’ve kept our promises to Arizonans to ensure that their vote counts.”
