Secretary of State Brewer Concludes Candidate Filing for Statewide and Federal
Offices
PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer today officially
closed the month long window for candidates to file their nomination papers
and petitions for the primary and general election in 2008. Federal and statewide
candidates had until 5 p.m. today to submit the necessary paperwork to the
Secretary of State in order to qualify for this year's ballot.
"This is truly a wonderful and exciting part of our democratic process
here in Arizona, and I am very proud of my hard working staff for the yeoman

Secretary Brewer. In all, we had over 237 candidates come in to file enough
signatures to stand for office.
In addition, the Secretary announced that all four recognized statewide political
parties filed their presidential elector's paperwork to be on the ballot representing
their specific presidential candidate this November. Presidential hopeful Ralph
Nader also filed over 50,000 petition signatures to qualify for the General
Election ballot as a candidate with no designated party affiliation.
According to Arizona Statutes, any voter can file in court to challenge the
nomination of a candidate no later than 5 p.m. ten business days after the
last day to file nomination papers and petitions (which is June 18, 2008).
