Sec. of State Jan Brewer Certifies Candidates for 2008 Primary Election Ballot

List Released of Congressional Candidates Who Filed Statements On Recall

PHOENIX -- Arizona Secretary of State Jan Brewer, recently certified to the county election officials the names of 237 candidates for the 2008 primary election to be held on September 2, 2008. In addition, three candidates filed as Independent candidates. As Independents these candidates forgo the Primary and will appear directly on the November general election ballot. The full list of candidates can be found at the Secretary of State's website: www.azsos.gov.

Secretary Brewer commented, “I am extremely pleased to see so many candidates qualifying for certification for the primary election ballot.” Secretary Brewer also noted, “I look forward to a smooth, efficient and secure election process over the coming months.”

Also, as required by A.R.S. § 19-221(B), Secretary Brewer announced the following list of candidates for the office of United States Representative in Congress who filed a Statement on Recall.

The following candidates filed a Statement on Recall agreeing to resign if not re-elected on a recall vote: Mark Anderson, Tim Bee, Scott Bergren, Rick Biondi, Susan Bitter Smith, Joe Cobb, William Crum, Rebecca DeWitt, Jeff Flake, Trent Franks, Gabrielle Giffords, Tom Hansen, Sydney Hay, Don Karg, Ann Kirkpatrick, Laura Knaperek, Preston Korn, Sandra L. B. Livingstone, Bob Lord, Jim Ogsbury, Ed Pastor, Rebecca Schneider, David Schweikert, John Shadegg, Howard Shanker, Joseph Sweeney, and Mary Kim Titla.

The following candidates did not file a Statement on Recall: Jeffrey Brown, Gene Chewning, Powell Gammill, Lee Gentry, Chris Gramazio, Raúl Grijalva, Barry Hall, Brent Maupin (Independent), Harry Mitchell, Warren Severin, Michael Shoen, and John Thrasher.
