Interest in Upcoming Election Brings Across the Board Increases in Number of Voters
PHOENIX - Arizona
Secretary of State Jan Brewer today released the voter registration
figures for the State of Arizona as of June 1, 2008. The statewide voter registration
total has increased to 2,734,108, up 39,134 since the last report on March
1.
“This increase in voter registration clearly reflects continuing interest in
the upcoming primary and general elections,” stated Secretary of State Brewer. “As
the elections draw near, I have no doubt that the outreach efforts made by my
office, by the county recorders, by the candidates, and by the political parties
themselves will all make a big difference and helping get more voters to participate.”
There are 1,045,365 registered Republicans, an increase of
8,591, since the March 1 voter registration figures. Registered
Democrats total 935,638, an increase of 19,650. Registered
Libertarians total 16,976, an increase of 43 registered voters
and 3,244 voters are currently registered with the Green party
which recently acquired ballot status here in Arizona .
Those registered as independents or as members of unrecognized parties are
grouped together in the “Other” category on the voter registration figures.
The latest total of voters in that group is 732,885, an increase of 7,606.
“There are obviously some very important issues for voters
to consider in the 2008 election,” said Sec. Brewer, “my office
is absolutely committed to educating the voters and ensuring
that every citizen has an opportunity to participate in our
electoral process.”
