Filing season is almost here and we’re looking forward to seeing you at the Secretary of State’s office. We will be ready starting on January 2nd at 8 a.m. to begin accepting your candidate filings, if you so choose.
To make the filing process as efficient as possible by having the right staff on hand, we encourage you to reserve a filing appointment on our website: https://www.azsos.gov/elections/running-office/schedule-candidate-filing... If you can’t find a spot that works best for you, please don’t hesitate to give us a phone call at 602.542.8683 and we will certainly accommodate your schedule. Walk-ins are still always welcome, but candidates with appointments will have priority.
Also, we will be processing candidate petitions electronically for the first time this year. Our software will hopefully count your signatures faster (and with more accuracy) than in years past, and you will have same-day electronic access to all your marked-up petitions.
In order for our software to function as designed, however, it is important to let us know if you circulated petitions using a candidate petition form that substantially deviated from the 2017 or 2015 official form versions. For example, changing the font size or margins could potentially affect the software’s ability to read the petition. To be safe, candidates with any questions are encouraged to email or drop off a copy of a circulated petition to our office at any time so we can test the petition in our software. This is only suggested, however. We will still be able to work with any petition you bring in.
If you have any questions about the filing process or types of required documents to file as a participating candidate, please contact David Romney or Teresa Jones at the Secretary of State’s office at 602.542.8683.
