Prevent the summer slide!

The last school bell has rung, backpacks are empty and all too soon, students and families will be looking for something to keep occupied. What to do? Participate in your local library’s summer reading program. Reading at least 20 minutes a day keeps the brain exercised and helps prevent “summer slide” or the loss of reading skills during summer break.

Summer reading is for all ages, have a friendly contest – Adults v. Kids, Cousin v. Cousin, Friend v. Friend, Sibling v. Sibling. In fact, when my brother and I were young my mother challenged us, and never has a summer been seen where I have read with such vigor. Keep track of what’s read online, and earn virtual reading badges.

Don’t have time to go to the library? Many libraries have eBook lending programs. Check out the services and programs offered by your local library today!
