PHOENIX – Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich today filed paperwork with the secretary of state to place Sen. Marco Rubio on the Republican ballot for the Presidential Preference Election, March 22, 2016. Candidates have until December 14 to file.

“I am excited to see so much diversity represented on the Republican ballot this year,” said Secretary of State Michele Reagan. “No matter which side of the aisle voters are on; hopefully, Arizonans will find a candidate who resonates with them and come out to vote.”

Candidates who have filed for the PPE, listed in the order they filed with the SOS, include:

  • Jeb Bush (R)
  • Ted Cruz (R)
  • Ben Carson (R)
  • Hilary Clinton (D)
  • Marco Rubio (R)

Candidates may participate in Arizona’s PPE in several ways: Submit 500 petition signatures, or official documentation from at least two other states proving they qualified for the ballot in that state. The list of candidates for the PPE is updated online as candidates file at, under the elections section.

For those not affiliated with a recognized political party, “independent” candidates will submit nomination paperwork, petitions and other required documents at a later date, as specified within the Running for President in Arizona candidate guide provided by the Secretary of State’s office.

Arizona’s “open primary” provisions do not apply to the presidential preference election. In order to cast a ballot in the March 22nd election, a voter must be registered with a political party by February 22, 2016.  Voters can update their registration easily at or Arizona.Vote.
