December 5, 2016

Arizona Secretary of State Michele Reagan today issued the official canvass of results for the 2016 General Election.  The Secretary was joined by Attorney General Mark Brnovich and Chief Justice Scott Bales for the formal certification.

Secretary Reagan reported 2.6 million Arizonans voted in the general election, making it the highest number of ballots cast in state history.  While there were a historic number of votes, turnout was about average at 74% ranking 6th highest in Arizona history.

The nation’s seconds-in-command will gather in Scottsdale, Arizona this week for the National Lieutenant Governors annual business meeting.  Before the formal meeting begins, Secretary Reagan is hosting a Field Study visit on Tuesday to the Mexico-Arizona Border and tour of the Mariposa Crossing and Cargo Facility.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan has announced the retirement of Dr. Melanie Sturgeon, Director of the State Archives and designated Dr. Ted Hale the State Archivist.  Dr. Hale has worked alongside Dr. Sturgeon for more than a decade and will carry on a tradition of modernization and greater access to the state’s historic materials.

Secretary of State Michele Reagan has announced the latest voter registration figures and the number of registrants in Arizona have soared by 187,855 to nearly 3.6 million active voters.  It was the largest report-to-report increase since the 2008 General Election which jumped 230,989.

Of the state's 3,588,466 voters, 1,239,614 are Republicans, 1,091,323 are Democrats and 1,219,277 have not designated an officially recognized party preference.  Libertarians and members of the Green party make up a little less than one percent of the state’s total registration.

With just 27 days until the 2016 General Election, Arizona’s Secretary of State Michele Reagan has announced the unofficial voter registration totals before the detailed Voter Registration Report is issued later this month.

PHOENIX – In its continued effort to modernize the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records into the 21st century, the State Library of Arizona is consolidating its print law journal collection to a core collection of materials relevant to Arizona.  The Library will be discarding the non-Arizona related law journals that are currently available online as well as its collection of international law materials.

The Secretary of State’s Office will conduct a series of Town Hall meetings around the state to educate the public about the General Election ballot propositions beginning next week. The meetings are free and open to the public.

“Information about each ballot measure will be presented at these open public meetings,” said Secretary Reagan. “When voters are educated about the issues they feel more comfortable about their voting choices when casting their ballots. I hope the voters take advantage of these Town Halls to learn more about the ballot measures.”
