Sec. of State Brewer Issues RFP to Replace Punch Card Voting Machines
On Pace to Get New Voting Equipment in Time for Presidential Preference

PHOENIX -- Secretary of State Jan Brewer today, announced that a request for proposal (RFP) had been issued to buy new voting systems and replace all punch card voting machines from throughout the State of Arizona. The RFP is specifically intended to overhaul Arizona’s current voting equipment and qualify our state’s election systems to comply with the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA).

"From the outset, I have pushed hard to remain on schedule and have these new machines in place for the next Federal election," stated Secretary Brewer, "the issuance of this RFP is right on-track to have new systems in place by February’s Presidential Preference Election."

Today’s announcement comes less than a month after Secretary Brewer had gained approval of SB 1075, a bill which prescribed an expedited procurement process that could conclude by September 1.

"I’ve made no secret of the fact we need to get new technology on-time and in place so that we avoid any potential future election problems caused by hanging or pregnant chads," added Brewer, "the successful completion of this contract will do away with antiquated voting machines and put us in position to get new equipment in place."

The RFP is available to vendors through the Arizona Department of Administration and the State Procurement Office. Their homepage is The Secretary of State/State Procurement Office Solicitation Number for this contract is AD030150.
